As we continue to accelerate AI innovation across the Academia & Government portfolio – including the introduction of new solutions such as Clarivate Nexus – we are deepening this collaboration through a new, highly engaged forum: the Academic AI Working Group.

This group will bring together library and academic professionals from institutions around the world, providing hands on guidance that shapes the next generation of Academic AI tools and capabilities.

Why we’re launching the Academic AI Working Group

As AI capabilities advance, the academic community plays a vital role in ensuring these technologies align with principles of trust, a focus on what truly matters to our community, and responsible innovation. The Academic AI Working Group is designed to channel that expertise directly into product development.

Members will provide practical, actionable insights on user experience, responsible AI guardrails, and emerging AI platform capabilities, ensuring that enhancements are informed by real world workflows and consistently benefit users across Clarivate solutions for academia. The purpose is clear: to ensure Academic AI solutions deliver meaningful value, support confident adoption, and reflect the needs of the communities they serve.

Who will be involved?

To ensure broad and representative input, the Academic AI Working Group will include:

Up to 15 professionals from diverse regions, roles, and institution types

Monthly virtual meetings beginning April 2026

A two year term of sustained engagement and contribution

The group will operate in parallel with community driven efforts such as ELUNA, IGeLU, and IUG, strengthening sector wide collaboration.

How the Academic AI Working Group differs from the Academia AI Advisory Council

Both the Academic AI Working Group and the Academia AI Advisory Council play essential yet complementary roles in shaping the direction of Academic AI. The Academic AI Working Group focuses on the design, implementation, and product experience of AI solutions, offering ongoing, hands on collaboration that yields detailed, practical input—such as how an AI feature should function within the user experience. In contrast, the Advisory Council concentrates on long term strategy and the broader future of Academic AI, offering high level, conceptual guidance through periodic, discussion based consultation. Together, they ensure our approach is grounded in real world workflows while aligned with forward looking strategic direction.

How you can get involved

We are now seeking candidate members who are actively engaged in areas such as Academic AI, user experience, digital strategy, or responsible AI frameworks. If you believe you would be a strong contributor, we invite you to reach out to academiaai@clarivate.com by March 4.

Our aim is to build a diverse, global group that represents the full spectrum of academic needs and perspectives.

The Academic AI Working Group is designed to offer real value to participants. Members will gain early visibility into upcoming AI capabilities, with opportunities to explore and test new features before they are widely released. It’s also a chance to connect with peers from institutions around the world, share experiences, and build relationships that support ongoing professional growth. Most importantly, participants will have a direct hand in shaping tools that students, researchers, and librarians rely on every day—ensuring these solutions reflect real needs and make a meaningful impact in academic workflows.

Looking ahead

As institutions navigate a rapidly evolving AI landscape, collaboration has never been more essential. By bringing academic professionals directly into the design process, the Academic AI Working Group will help ensure our solutions remain trustworthy, impactful, and aligned with real world research and learning environments.

In July 2024, Clarivate launched the Academia AI Advisory Council, establishing a foundation for engaging academic leaders on the future of AI in research and education.
